Chapter 4.2.
Fractallery
(fractal manipulations)
Description
This chapter deals with digitally manipulated images initially drawn by specific fractal-generating programs. Although these programs themselves can plot beautiful calculated images, I went a step further and developed a special style of subsequent digital processing/re-painting of raw fractals.
This topic is explained in more detail in Chapter 3.4. Fractals, but I think it is necessary to emphasize one important detail here again: the pictures from this portfolio are meant to be observed as they hang on the wall! By their nature, these are digital works, and all the magic of (raw) fractals (self-similarity on all scales) can be most truly portrayed only interactively on a computer or as a zoom animation (i.e., video, which is again another medium). Fractart, on the other hand, is a branch that limits wandering through infinity to a certain segment, a frozen finite image, from which something can be read. This something can be reached only by staring at the mentioned segment, which in turn must be presented in a way suitable for humans—printed as an image on a solid medium. And in the largest possible format (say at least 1 × 1 m) because it is possible from a distance of 10 m to notice a pattern that covers half of the picture and then approach a distance of 20 cm and recognize several more of the same (or very similar) patterns but now in a slightly different context. A slightly different experience than looking at pictures/photos… I sincerely hope to be able to organize an exhibition soon.
Note: I personally tried several fractal generators, but very quickly this adventure focused on only two of them, so the fractal part of this portfolio is further divided accordingly:
Bonus:
In addition to the static images shown in those divisions, several fractanimations (animations of raw fractals) were created during my fracthiking – here you can see:
3 examples from 2D realm, generated in Ultrafractal:
2 examples from 3D realm (the consequence of my relatively short fumbling with Incendia, with minor additional interventions in Photoshop):
And finally – a few examples of my relatively recent precupation – animations from Kalle’s Fraktaler:
